1.
How much will it cost?
This is probably the most common question.
A better question might be, "How much would you like to spend?" Since
there's never a single best solution, design can go
on and on ... and on, just the Energizer bunny. Often it's best
to
to put together a workable, livable budget for the project that allows
for enough time to create a solution that meets the project criteria
and goals.
2. Can we have this tomorrow?
Probably not. Unless it's a simple down and dirty job. Good design
takes a reasonable amount of time to research the facts and explore
the options. I do try my best to keep the project moving along and
finish it up in a jiffy. A jiffy, by the way, is an actual
unit of time for 1/100th of a second.
On the up side, I'm usually faster than most in turnaround. This is
because I don't have a personal life. But heck, it's a small price
to pay for keeping my clients happy.
3. How do you bill?
Ah, one of my favorite questions. I used to bill by the project, then
I discovered this concept called cash flow. Apparently, the idea is
to keep the money moving in and out. That gets a bit tough when you've
got a bunch of projects that last 6 - 8 months or longer.
Now I bill hourly and send invoices off on their merry way on or about
the 15th of each month. Yeah, I probably make less moolah than I would
billing on a project basis, but what the hey, now I've got cash flow.
4. What is the lateral airspeed of the Spine-tailed Swift?
220 mph.
5. What were the last words spoken by Leonardo da Vinci?
"I have offended God and mankind because my work did not reach
the quality it should have."
Geez, some people are never satisfied. |
