Fear of writing getting to you? Here's a cure.

Most of you who are regular readers of this blog are probably pretty aware that I’m big on writing as a promotional tool. But, I’ll venture a guess that many of you didn’t major in English and the thought of writing an article, white paper or blog scares the heck out of you. “Oh geez, is it ‘who’ or ‘whom?’” “”Hmmm ... this seems to be a participle predicament.” “Oh no! My predicate is dangling.” “Does this even make sense?”

Well, you’re in luck. I’m just finishing reading, Fear of Writing: for writers & closet writers, by Milli Thornton (Word Nerd Press). It’s a great piece of paperback to help ease your fears and rev up the Shakespeare lurking within. If you’re a professional writer, novice or just a hobbyist, you’re bound to find many useful tidbits to break the block, jump start your creativity and enjoy writing again.

Fear of Writing: for writers & closet writers isn’t about crafting a sentence that would put a gleam in your eighth grade teacher’s eye. It’s not about grandiose grammar or spot-on spelling. It’s about fun.

Milli’s done an excellent job developing a process called, “Fertile Material.” This “Fertile Material” is a collection of 112 exercises weaved within pages filled with stories, anecdotes and insights. It’s a liberating method to get your creative juices flowing and actually start writing.

Although the book is geared primarily toward fiction writers and novelists, the concepts will likely help anyone interested in writing – whether it’s that book idea that’s been in the back of your mind, or an article to help position you as an expert in your field. Odds are, it will even help perk up your proposal writing so your clients will actually enjoy reading them.

To top it all off, Milli’s having a promotional event, January 24 & 25, on Amazon.com. Folks who buy the book on those days through Amazon are also eligible for a boat load of bonus gifts and prizes – as in almost 600 smackers worth of stuff. To learn more, swing over to the Fear of Writing site at : specialoffer.fearofwriting.com.

If you’re interested in jump starting your writing, Fear of Writing: for writers & closet writers is an excellent investment to help you on the way.

I will definitely look into that book. Writing is my biggest fear! I guess blogging is my way to try to get over it. Thanks for the tip.

Thanks for the comment!

I didn't get into writing until a few years ago when we started to put Creative Latitude together. We needed a writer and I was drafted.

Around the same time, I wrote a couple of articles and took them for a test drive. To my delight, they were posted on several site and my inbox started filling up and my site traffic grew.

Before that, my thinking was "I'm a designer. Writing goes out to the copywriter." If I had taken the chance on writing years ago, I could have made a lot more dough on various gigs.

For me, it's been a matter of just doing it. You've got to start somewhere. I think the trick is allowing yourself to fall on you hind quarter a few times while you're learning the ropes. Everything tends to be difficult until it becomes easy. And that takes time, trial and error.

Best of luck in your writing efforts!

Hello to a.i. abbasi,

There is actually a way to get a free book. In fact, three free books. This is for people who wish to start a writing circle in their local area based on the Fear of Writing method.

Naturally, there are some requirements you'll need to fulfill. One involves testing one of my Fertile Material writing prompts to find out if you like it. The other requirement hinges on placing a free classified ad to announce your writing circle. You can read the full requirements on this page at my Website:

Writing Circles - Start Your Own With Three Free Books

Cheers - Milli
